The main objectives of the Instituto Complutense de Ciencias Musicales include
research, the rediscovery of the heritage of Spanish music, specialised edition,
musicological assessment-advice and the dissemination of Spanish and Latin-American music
More concretely, these objectives entail:
• The publication of editions and research into Spanish and Latin-American music
• The dissemination of Spanish and Latin-American music through the collections
Música Hispana. Partituras (Scores) and Música Hispana. Textos (Texts)
• The cataloguing and custody of music collections,
especially those pertaining
to the Sociedad General de Autores y
Editores (SGAE) and private collections
that have been donated or are
on loan
• The organisation of Masters, courses and technical and specialised training
programs in various musicological areas
• Providing professional advice to institutions,
organisations, especially
the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM),
Instituto Nacional de
Artes Escénicas y la Música (INAEM), the
Autonomous Community of Madrid
and the SGAE
• Undertaking research in areas relating to the application of new technology to music
Other Activities
The ICCMU is responsable for the organisation of various university
activities, including the Complutense Concert Cycle, which is designed
to foster an interest in music among the university community.
The Institute also lends its support to the Musicology speciality at
the Faculty of Geography and History of the UCM, both in relation to
teaching staff and by supporting certain lines of work and research
